Gingham and Denim and Fruit, oh my!

Hey there beans 🙂 Welcome back to the blog! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted (okay only a week or two, but that’s a long time) But I’ve been up to some pretty cool stuff. I’ve been having so much fun just being HOME. As much as I miss Savannah and Florence, it’s been so so nice waking up in my own bed every morning, and being able to see my mom every day instead of just calling. I love love love traveling but I can promise that nowhere will ever have my heart quite as much as Spanish Fork, Utah!

So I haven’t had the chance to actually sit down and design and make something in way too long. I haven’t even touched a sewing machine since I got out of school until Thursday! My stupid dumb sewing machine broke at the absolute worst time, and I just wanted to make something SO. BAD. I’ve been looking all over for the perfect summery shirt but couldn’t find exactly what I had pictured in my head, but I realized it was because I made it up. I’ve been loving the summer gingham trend but couldn’t find anything that I really loved, and you already know I’m a denim lover so I wanted something with that too, and also this fruit trend is seriously my dream come true because I’ve been rocking pineapples and oranges since day one, and I loooovvvee fruit patterns and just fruit in general. So I decided to combine all three into a simple little shirt for summer. So I did some sketches, got some fabric, and borrowed my Grandma’s machine for a day. And voila! I present, the gingham/denim/fruit shirt! If you can think of a better name for it please let me know ASAP. And after my dry spell of not sewing for a couple of months I’ve come up with soooo many new ideas just bouncing around in my head. So I really can’t wait to work on some more things before I go back to school next month! I’ll definitely keep posting my creations on the blog so you guys can see! And because I always end up losing my photos and I know I’ll need them for a resume or something one day lol. You can find the rest of my outfit details at the bottom of this post!

So you may be wondering about that seventh picture that looks kind of out of place among my little fruit shirt pictures. I know I’ve tweeted and snapchatted about this so much, so just skip this part if you don’t want to hear about it again, buttttt I got to meet Amber Fillerup and Rachel Parcell on Saturday!!!!!! And If you don’t know who they are, you definitely need to look them up on Instagram and follow them. Right. Now. I’m serious. They are two of my biggest idols in fashion blogging and just life in general. Amber especially has been so inspirational to me over the years. I even bought hair extensions from her line a few months ago. She has the most enviable life, and the most perfect everything, and the cutest kids. I’ve been following her for yeearrsss and I could barely even speak when I met her. Amber and Rachel were holding a pop-up shop for Amber’s hair extension line and for Rachel’s clothing line, and had flown to Utah to hold it at Thanksgiving point, so OBVIOUSLY I hustled by butt up there to be first in line (also shoutout to by BFF Abbie for driving me up there and dealing with my squealing and for taking pics) when I finally go to meet them our conversation went something like this. “Hi… Amber.. can I take… a picture with… you guys?” and she was so sweet and said of course and I was literally the first person in line because I got up there so early hahaha. and she said she liked my hair and I almost threw up I literally couldn’t say anything. I wanted to be like “It’s from your extension line!!! I love them and I love you and can we be best friends?? I love you” but I pretty much just smiled and tried not to run away. And then after we took the picture Rachel told me she liked my shirt so of course I blurted out “I MADE IT” because I wanted them to like me or something I DON’T KNOW I PANICKED. But they were soooo sweet and kept telling me how cute it was and how I was so talented and asked me sewing machine questions. It was the most stressful and wonderful two minutes of my life ahahahah. They are perfect angels even in real life (someone PUHLEEZE tell me how someone’s skin can be that flawless) and they were so sweet and genuinely excited to meet all of their fans and learn all about them. Also Rachel’s clothing line is sooo cute! Highly recommend. Anyway, sorry for the detailed description of my Fillerup/Parcell encounter, but it needed to be said.

As for my life (would it really be a Bri blog post if I didn’t throw in some random details about my life?) I am chilling right now, not too much going on. I start a new job this week that I will be working until I go back to college in September, and I’ve just been hanging back enjoying being with my family and extended family and doing some fun stuff with them. We’re going to Disneyland in two weeks and I’m beyond thrilled, you have no idea. I’m literally six years old in my heart I think, and I miss being able to go to Disney with my family a few times a year (YES, they literally go without me when I’m gone it’s so sad.) So that’s what I’m currently stoked for, so get ready to see lots of funny splash mountain faces, and unnecessary churro pictures. No. Shame.

Love you all!

xoxo Bri

I am really impressed with your design/sewing skills. You were talented before you went to college, and after a year, your skills have improved even more – college works people! xoxo
